Sewage Treatment Plant (STP)

Sewage treatment is the process of removing contaminants from waste water and household sewage, both run of (Effluents) domestic, commercial and Institutional included physical, chemical, and biological process of removing physical, chemical and biological containment. The object is to produce on environmentally safe fluid waste stream or treated effluent and a solid waste (pr treated sludge) suitable for disposal or reuse, usually as Horticulture

We have professionally expertise to deal in the following Sewage Water Treatment technologies.

MBBR is an improved version of SAFF (Surface Area Fixed Filmed Technology (SAFF)), with a difference of MBBR carrier is free floating media in the Aeration tank of Sewage/Effluent treatment plant

MBBR technology employs thousands of polyethylene biofilm . Biofilm carrier movement is caused by the agitation of air bubbles.

A Moving Bed Biofilm MBBR reactor consists of a tank with free floating media having specific gravity less than 1.0. The large surface area of the plastics provide abundant surface for bacterial growth. Biomass grows on the surface as a thin film whose thickness usually varies between 50-300 microns. Each individual bio carrier increases productivity through providing protected surface area to support the growth of bacteria.

Diffusers are uniformly placed at the bottom of the reactor maintains a dissolved oxygen (DO) concentration of > 2.5-3 mg/L for BOD removal.

A typical MBR Media is shown below.

MBR Media

A schematic of the Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor MBBR process for BOD removal is shown below.

MBR Media

Some of the key features of MBBR process are provided below:

  1. Robust – It is stable under load variations, insensitive to temporary limitation and provides consistent treatment results
  2. Efficient – It generates low solids and requires no or minimum polymer for solid/liquid separation
  3. Compact – It requires a small footprint. Typically it requires 1/3rd the space required for Activated Sludge Process.
  4. Cost – It requires a low capital cost and is comparable to cost of Activated Sludge Process. It is cheaper than the MBR process.
  5. Flexible – Existing plants can be upgraded easily with MBBR. New MBBR plants can be upgraded to handle higher loads with no or minimum cost and construction.
  6. Trouble Free – It is easy to operate, has automatic sludge wasting, has no sludge Return and no MLSS, and there no issue of media clogging.
  7. Expandable – Capacity can be easily upgraded by simply increasing the fill fraction of biofilm carriers

The term membrane bioreactor (MBR) defines a combination of an activated sludge process and Waste water separation by means of membranes.

The membrane modules can be either submerged type or outside installation type. This technology is very effective in removal of organic load from sewage and is widely used to save space and get high purity water.

The design criteria of the system shall be base according to the traditional way of Activated Sludge Treatment principle. However, on top of that, the MBR modules are immersed and located in the aeration tank, the clear water is pumped (sucked) out from the MBR modules.

Small systems can be skid mounted and offers customers a complete, flexible, cost-effective design supported by our team of engineers.

A sample configuration of a developed process is shown in figure below shows the water circulation of three submerged modules with perspective view of the modules depicting components inside.

MEMBRANE BIOREACTOR (MBR)

The popularity of MBR technology lies in following advantages: (over conventional processes)

  1. Most important aspect of MBR technology is production of very high quality effluent consistently.
  2. Reduced Sludge Production
  3. Process intensification through high Biomass concentration with MLSS (Mixed Liquor Suspended Solids) over 8000 – 10000 ppm.
  4. Ability to treat high strength wastewater.
  5. Lower footprint than Conventional Activated Sludge Process, since Clarifier/Filters are eliminated.
  6. Reduction in Post disinfection requirements.

Due to above advantages & recent technical innovations and significant cost reductions the applicability of MBR technology in municipal wastewater treatment has sharply increased. MBR system is now widely used in industrial applications equally. Large MBR systems are normally built with Hollow Fiber or Tubular membranes & smaller installations prefer Flat Sheet membranes.

The Sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR) is an activated sludge process designed to operate in a batch mode with aeration and sludge settlement both occurring in the same tank. Difference between SBR and activated sludge system is that the SBR tank carries out the functions of equalization, aeration and sedimentation in a time sequence.

An appropriately designed SBR process is a unique combination of equipment and software. Working with automated control reduces the number of operator skill and attention requirement. There are basically five stages to treatment: Fill, React, Settle, Decant and Idle. Aeration times vary according to the plant size and the composition/quantity of the incoming liquor. The settling stage is usually the same length in time as the aeration. The sludge is allowed to settle until clear water is on the top 20%-30% of the tank volume. The decanting stage most commonly involves the slow lowering of a scoop or “trough” into the basin. SBR is ideally suited when nitrification, de nitrification and biological phosphorus removal is necessary

Sequencing Batch Reactor Technology (SBR)

Advantages of Sequencing Batch Reactor

  1. Small footprint
  2. Simple Design.
  3. Maintains consistent effluent quality due to batch settling method.
  4. Suitable for variable organic and hydraulic load.
  5. No Clarifier required reducing the spare requirement
  6. Effective quiescent settling
  7. No sludge recirculation
  8. Biological Nutrient removal.
